Innovations in International Development
On Thursday I made a brief presentation on the work of D4D at the UF Innovations in International Development Symposium. What always impresses me is the range of work being done at UF—well beyond what I see on a daily basis. These are colleagues working all over the world who have amazing contributions to make. Highlights were a pesticide being tested that kills only one type of mosquito (malaria carrying) and is not harmful to people, animals, other insects, or the environment. I really enjoyed learning about low tech brick building from Esther Obonyo and how one problem they were addressing lead to this—another, unexpected challenge. Interestingly it is the technique of the mason that has a lot to do with the success of the building. Craft, craft, craft …
